Course Description

This course provides an overview of visual art methods and materials that are appropriate for art students in grades 5-12. The focus of this course is to provide students with opportunities to explore and become familiar with a wide range of materials, in order to create lessons for diverse populations. The course will explore visual culture and inquiry-based approaches to art education through art-making and critical thinking. Using an interdisciplinary approach to art making, students will explore art content through multicultural and historical lenses. Through collaborative work, students are encouraged to connect theory with classroom practice and to develop lesson plans and curricula that meet the objectives and developmental needs of a wide variety of students in 5-12 grade level art settings.
